Search Engine Optimization (SEO) - Rank you website in top positions of search engines.

Understanding SEO Keyword Placement

After getting the list of SEO keywords through keyword research and competitive analysis, next we have to use them properly in order to gain values from the right keywords, otherwise the list won’t do you much good at all. Following are some of the useful tips on WHERE and HOW to place the keywords on your site properly so that search engines could interpret them properly and take note of your website:

Title Tags

  • The most important SEO tags for any website that wants to rank high in search engine;
  • Always target the most critical keywords in the title tag;
  • Place your keywords in the beginning of the title tag (this significantly improves the effectiveness of the tags);
  • Try to limit the length of title tag at 60 characters (different search engines read different title length, and Google allows title length of up to 66 characters);
  • Make sure that every title of your site page is unique;
  • Make the title as descriptive as possible.

Meta Description Tags

  • This is shown as the text beneath the linked title in search results as shown in the figure below;
  • Include unique meta description for every page in your website;
  • Meta description text should be different from the text included in the title tag;
  • Keep your descriptions to around 25 to 30 words (or about 150 characters);
  • Include keywords with high level of importance.

Alt Attributes (Alt Tag)

  • used to briefly describe images in the website;
  • Search engines cannot “see” an image, but they can “see” what the image is about by reading the alt tag. The tag should be used for every single image on your website;
  • Keep your alt tag to between 50 and 125 characters;

Anchor Text

  • Anchor text is the linked text on a web page; (like wikipedia);
  • This is one of the most important SEO ranking factors! We will discuss more in depth in the coming articles;
  • Pay attention at the relevancy of the link and the words used to create the link;

Header Tag Content

  • Search engine crawlers take into consideration the text within a header tag (H1 – H6);
  • Include your most important keywords in the H1 tag, for example <H1>SEO Singapore</H1> if you want to rank for that particular keyword;
  • Try not to use more than one H1 header tag;

Body Text

  • Moderately include your keywords into the content of your site;
  • Try to use body-text tags (e.g. bold, italic, etc..) to draw the crawlers’ attention, and include your keywords in the tags as well;
  • Make sure your website content is “seeable” by search engine crawlers. For example, crawlers cannot read wordings embedded in a graphic, so try to avoid that (although you can include Alt Tag in the graphic itself);

URLs (Universal Resource Locator)

  • Keep it as short and as descriptive as possible;

File Names

  • Rename all the files or images on your website to keyword-related titles

      Yes putting keyword as anchor text does help with your SEO. It’s actually stated in the post under “Anchor Text” section. Thank you.
